A female United Kingdom age 22-25, *nidentified123 writes:

Hi I know there is a lot of stuff on loving teachers, well the problem is, she is the same gender as I, is this normal? But she is a music teacher, and whenever I perform, she watches me closely smiling and whenever I'm around her I go bright red. I always hang around the music department now just to get a glimpse of her.

I was in a concert with my school before and we had to wear all black in the choir, she was there and told me I looked really pretty. From then on I knew I liked her. But I found out its against the law to love a teacher and whenever I see her I burst into tears.

She comforted me before when I was crying and she was so delicate with me and gentle, I hope so much she loves me too. But I know it could never happen so I try often to stay away and I find it unbareable to be apart. I always go to the extreme to impress her and I only wish we could be together and we can't. So it breaks my heart. What do I do? Please, help me.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (19 January 2014):

She's not doing anything other than being a good, caring teacher. You say she said you look pretty, she was probably trying to give your confidence a little boost as many girls need nowadays.

She watches you when you perform. Well, she would do. Being a music teacher she is going to be looking closely to ensure the way you use the instrument is correct, and may be proud that she is able to watch young people became better as they become older.

Remind yourself of these things so your feelings don't become out of control. There is nothing wrong with being attracted to someone of the same sex; but when it's a teacher there is nothing that will happen. They are older, probably in happy relationships of their own with someone of a similar age.

Extend your interests beyond just music, join other clubs at school so that you are interacting with lots of different people. You might find this reduces the time with her and your feelings will become less strong. Just enjoy being young, you are entitled to have lots of crushes on actors, singers and people in your classes! Growing up is a tricky time, so try to have as much fun as you can.
