If I had to choose, and it was my partner making me choose, I'd choose my dog. Stop being difficult if you love him then you should except what he loves, eg his dogs.

 it is absoulutly reasonable obviously this person does not love you if they choose some dogs over there girlfriend and you did right to give him an ultimatum because at least you now no what hes like you can do better

 You have to ask yourself if you are better off WITHOUT your husband and the dogs, or better off WITH your husband and the dogs. You apparently have no middle ground here as far as he's concerned. Good luck with whatever you decide. P.S. Dogs are great but he's going to regret his choice if you decide to leave him.

 Forgive me for asking if this is a real question? I have seen a programme with people who have done the same but find it hard to understand people who'd choose their dog! Anyway......did you try and reach a compromise before the ultimatum? The thing is about ultimatums, once you've issued them there's nowhere to go if you don't get the response you want.
People have different stances on pets, but perhaps the bed is not the place....... To answer your question, personally I think anyone who chooses their dog, shoul dbe put in the doghouse and you did the right thing! (Interesting point: you said "his" dogs yet "your" home, "our" bed....... hmmm)
