A female reader, DazedConfused United Kingdom +, writes (6 August 2010):

My dad left my mum for another woman when I was 5 and when I was 8 she met another man who has been the nearest thing to a dad but he works away most of the time. I dont call him dad and hes not really like a dad were not that close. But my mum is like a mum and a dad to me, She is awesome.

I think you should take a look at your mum and feel lucky to have a woman in your life who has to play two roles now and give her all the love you would give to two parents.

Not having a real dad in my life has made me a strong independant woman. And this is how you will grow to be!
