 Well, you could simply just speak to him and see what he's got to say. Yeah, it's direct and maybe a little embarrassing, but assume he is available -- then you've already broken the ice!! And if you're wrong and he's a gentlemen, he won't be annoyed at all that you asked, in fact I bet he'd be flattered!!
