I ended the intimate contacts, finding out he's interested in somebody else, now I miss him. Did I do the right thing?

iv been seeing this guy for about a month and recently found out his interested in someone else. Im extremly upset over it but not wanting to just be his 'sex buddy' in between his relationships i told him unless he feels the same way i cant do stuff with him anymore and he said yeh thats cool fair enough. In other words i guess his really not interested in anymore with me...I feel it was the right thing to do because im just going to get even more hurt so why do i regret telling him so bad, if i hadnt told him id still be doing stuff with him did i do the right thing, i miss being with him even though deep down i know it wasnt real, im so confused did i do the right thing?
