hello. i am a girl in the 16-19 yrs group, and i need advice on weight gaining. i am 5'5 and weigh around 103 lbs. my boyfriend says he likes me thin, but i get comments all the time from people saying that i look anorexic/bulemic, sickly, boney, etc.

i'm told just to ignore them, but i can't help but feel self-conscious. i eat healthily and everything, but i can't gain any weight. does anyone have any advice on how to gain?

I wish i could give youu and answer to your question, but unfortunatly i'm suffering the same thing. I am 16 and 5ft 3in. I eat loads, and even amaze all my friends at how much i eat (Large kebabs, loads of food in school etc) but, i am still under weight. Anyone who's BMI is under 18.5 is classed as under weight, and my BMI is only 17. I get bloated an awful lot, and i sometimes miss periods, these are signs of anorexia. When i am not bloated, the top of my ribs are visible and recently people have been asking me if i ave lost weight, where as i don't think i have. Should i see my GP or am i just over reacting?

YummyMummy agony auntI was trying so hard to put weight on before I fell pregnant. I had an eating disorder in my teens and became very skinny. I have never found much help for people looking to put weight on, where there is lots if you have an eating disorder or want to loose weight.

My doctor suggested eating a high carb diet- lots of pasta and potatoes. But it didn't help me put loads on.

Good luck

I used to have this same problem and still struggle with it sometimes. I am 5'8" and weighed 110 even though I ate big healthy meals and started to eat things like pizza to try to gain. Joining a gym and learning to lift weights really helped. It seems like it would have the opposite effect, but for me it worked. I was really weak at first and used 5lb. weights, but now I can lift more and when I keep at it I stay around 120 to 130lbs. depending on how often I can work out.

Love_is_all_youu_need agony auntYes you do appear to be underweight...And being called names is likely to reduce your self confidence even if you do ignore them.

I quicky just found this site, which gives some tips!

I hope it helps! xxx
