Start your own website writing the type of articles you want. A blog would be a good start, and they are relatively 10$ a month for the site, plus 10$ a year for the domain name.
In the meanwhile, submit an article here and there. Keep your day job, but look for something that will free up your mind more. Some jobs take lots of brain power, and other jobs (try some night jobs) free up your mind so that you can do creative thinking for you new career.
In time, you will develop a following, and try to get a regular weekly article in a publication somewhere. When you get to the point where your newsletter (yes, start one on your site) has a few thousand people on it, and the public is picking up the journals for YOUR article, you will be in a position to make a living off it.
