I don't want another case of the "Inlaws from hell!" What should I do?

I have been dating this guy for 4 years and this past Febuary he asked me to marry him. The problem is that I'm not sure if I want to be with him anymore. I have been married before and had the "INLAWS FROM HELL" my fear is that his family will be the same. My marriage was very abusive including with his family. I have not allowed myself to become close with my boyfriends family because of this fear and past experience. I basically stay away. His brother has had a jealous streak and has caused problems between us making me not want to be around his family. I don't want to come between him and his family but I don't think I can take another abusive inlaw bunch either. His family recently did something pretty horrible to him and it makes me think if they will do that to him (someone they love) what would they do to me? I have talked with my boyfriend about all of this and he doesn't think his family is at all like my ex's but I see a lot of common traits.

BASIC QUESTION: Should I run as fast as I can?
