Today one of the managers came up while I was changing my shoes and made some comment about how I was really getting it this week. (I had been there the previous day and he was also there.) I said I was making up for lost time because I'd been injured (I had) and he said he'd had a similar injury a few years ago, then sat down next to me and showed me the scar. We talked briefly about it and then I got up to go grab lunch. As I was leaving he asked if I was headed "back up the mountain," which I found really odd. I live in the only part of the county to which that description could apply, but I have no idea how he would know. I never had a conversation with him before and when I bought my year membership I paid in full so there's no bill going to my address or anything. Anyway I went to lunch and then came back to finish my workout. As I was leaving he said "Bye (my name)" from another room - I didn't even know he'd seen me leaving! I asked "How do you know my name?" because I had never told him and he said "I know these things."Now I am wondering how and why he found out. The check-in process involves swiping a little pass card so it's not very personal. I think he would have had to pull up my records or something to know this stuff. Why would he do that? Does anyone else find this weird? Reply to this Question Share |

If you are not interested or attached, tell him. Sounds to Mr like he was trying to be friendly not creepy . Communicate , if it is truly important, ask him where he learned your name, it might even leave YOU embarrassed that you didn't remember him!

He is friends with my boyfriend but I've never really had much to do with him, he got my number from my gym membership records because he couldn't get hold of my boyfriend!! They can easily get your details, it may be that he likes you and wanted to make conversation with you so looked up your name, your address more than likely would have been on the same page and he must have remembered it was up the mountain. If there is only one area that is up the mountain it would have stood out.
He sounds like a nice guy, nothing he said was weird or creepy! Maybe we if he keeps trying to start coversations with you as it might indicate he is interested in you more than being just a polite gym manager : )

If he's the gym manager, he, like the branch manager at a bank, would have gone through your membership form at some point of time. Even gyms try to following a decent Know Your Customer process nowadays. Unless he gets creepier, I wouldn't be thinking 'alarm bells' yet.

He knows your details because he is the gym manager. Being the gym manager means ensuring details are correct, checking people's membership status, checking what more could be offered to people etc. It is not weird that he knows your name and address he's just doing his job properly.
