A female United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I have just split up with my partner of 16 yrs. He loves me totally, but I am so confused. Things haven't been right for a while and I don't know if I am still in love with him or not...I am in my 30's and he was my 1st love, but lately I have been wondering what it would be like to be with someone else.

How do I figure out my true feelings?

firstlovelastlove agony auntwhat "Things haven't been right for a while"? And how long is "a while"? Is there someone specific you are "wondering what it would be like to be with"? I know it sounds corny but 'life is a journey' and while this man was your "1st love" is the man who you see yourself continuing to grow with and to become the best you, you can be. What do you want to accomplish in your life and who do you imagine with you? I think this is a really good place to start. What do you want and does your first love want this too? I wish you all the best!

It's hard to say. I always want to see a partnership work out. I never was with anyone that long, but man what we go through to be with someone... I'm sure most people in relationships think the same at some point. You are young, life is short. Maybe take a break from each other. See how you feel, have a little fun. If you still WANT them, try again. It might create sparks again and more understanding in each other. There are always ups and downs... good luck
