I care about you vs I care for you

Question - (30 March 2011) 1 Answers - (Newest, 30 March 2011)
A female United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

In a relationship, what is the difference in these 2 statements?

"I care about you" and "I care for you"

Correct me if I am wrong, but if a man says I care ABOUT you, that is more a friendly statement. BUT I care FOR you, that is meant more as an I love you.

This might seem like a stupid question but I am just curious.

A male reader, dirtball United States +, writes (30 March 2011):

dirtball agony auntThey mean the same thing to me. Although caring for someone reminds me of a nurse or something like that. Caring about someone is more emotional oriented in my opinion. It depends on the person and their lexicon as well.

It's best to think of the simple answer when it comes to what guys say. It's very rarely a cover for something else.
