A female reader, iSmil3y United States +, writes (5 January 2009):

You should try having a serious talk with your mom about this. Try telling her that your old enough and mature enough to have a boyfriend, if she still doesn't approve, ask her to meet him and get to know him a little better. I was in the same position as you when me and my boyfriend first started dating and I'm the same age as you and my boyfriend is 14 also. My mom didn't approve but once I Talked to her and she got to know him, I was able to see him a lot more and we have an amazing relationship now. Just try to talk to your mom about it and let her get to know him a little better. Also, another thing that would get your mom to say yes to you having a boyfriend is letting her know that your responsible, can keep your grades up in school, stay out of trouble and if she doesn't really want you having a boyfriend, it might be because she's afraid of you doing things that your not ready for just yet. So try talking to her and get her to talk to him, maybe even let her talk to his parents to get to know their family a little better too. Hope things work out:)
