Unfortunately, over the last year or so we argued and issues began to arise, I started to think that we cant go on like this and became unhappy.Anyway, we split up about 6 or 8 weeks ago and I keep having days were I miss her, like its her birthday tomorrow and I feel like I could cry right now. I realise that this is probably normal, that 'I' finished it and that we became pretty unhappy but I just feel so upset. Can anyone please help me?

You should be happy it happened, cos most times, first loves often want something different. However, they often become what you ever hoped for, if they ever come back. Sometimes, its okay to allow them roam and explore, so they would appreciate your relationship more (if you ever get back together).
Right now, cry and cry,if you must. Crying is a natural therapeutic and it will sure make you feel better.
Cheers

Chin up mate, try to keep yourself as busy as possible to keep your mind occupied. Try to spend time with your mates as time spent alone will let your mind wander.
Try not to do anything that will remind you of your ex or you'll keep going back to square one.
Most of all, give it time. You were together for many years so it is obvious it will take a whole to get over, just hang in there.
