The more important question is, does he respond in kind when you tell him that you like him?

Yes. Stop calling and texting. If he really likes you, he will try to initiate the communication you severed. Otherwise, if he doesn't contact you, you'll know he wasn't very serious about you.
You being the one to always call/text can come off as desperate. Just a fair warning.

Yes you are trying to hard and i'd stop bothering with a guy like that, it sounds to me as if he is taking the right mickey out of you.
