 Well you've got to ask yourself, do you feel awkward around him because you like him so much? If so, it'll pass once you get used to one another.
When I first got with my boyfriend, I was a bag of nerves, I never used to talk and I used to spill things all the time :) But, it did pass eventually.
If you say no, he may be hurt for a little while, but he will get over it and no doubt he will want to be your friend again.
