I am obsessed with losing weight and have started to skip meals. Mother is against it, what should I do?

I started skipping meals and chewing and spitting out food when I was 13 (I'm 15) and now all I can think about is losing weight. Just 10 lbs, though. My mom told me not to lose weight, and now my friends are too. What do I do?

I can answer this question with 100% confidence because I used to have an eating disorder. And it started just the way you are doing it. I'd just want to lose 10-15lbs, so I would skip a few meals. It turned into eating and then purging my food. This is the wrong way to do it!! It is not healthy for you physically or emotionally. It will only lead to more problems down the road. I have finally learned the RIGHT way to lose weight is to eat small meals thoughout the day. Only eat when you are hungy, and stop when you get full. Once you have done this for a while, your stomach will shrink, therefore you will begin to get full more quickly. After doing it this way, I lost 12lbs in a month, and I honestly have never felt better. I have more energy and peace of mind knowing I am doing it the right way.

birdynumnums agony auntSkipping meals is the worst thing that you can do if you want to lose weight, because your body goes into "starvation" mode and tries desperately to store what little food it is getting, in the form of fat. You are better off eating just until you are full. Eat until you are no longer enjoying your food, don't ever feel the need to "clear your plate". Eat smaller meals, more frequently, and get plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Get active. The more muscles that you have firing and burning calories, the trimmer you'll be. Being active with whatever sport you have is the best way to lose weight. At your age, plugging in your Ipod and dancing for an hour a day should get you into great shape!

Hi there, (finally a question I can answer in confidence!)

For starters, your going the wrong way about loosing weight. By skipping meals, your actually slowing your metabolism down, which is very bad. I'll try and keep this understandable for you as best I can.

The science behind that, is that when your body senses it's not getting enough food (by skipping meals, not eating enough), it goes into what's called "Hibernation mode" which make your body hold as much food as fat to be used as energy later on (also to keep vital organs going)

Your BEST bet to loose weight would be to eat approx every 3 hours, or about 5-6 times a day, to ensure your metabolism is firing away all day, and in turn, your body will sense its getting a constant supply of food. And the beauty with this is that your body will actually allow your body to free up fat! Awesome huh?

However, you need to make sure your eating smaller portions, and that the portions contain a balance (Protein, Carbs, and essentions fats such a mono-unsaturated fats).

If you read the back of any packet of food or can, you'll see the nutritional information. IT's not that hard to learn. Stick clear of any foods with high "saturated fats" these are the BAD ones. ALso, another tip to help loose weight would be to opt for foods higher in protein. The science behind this, is that Protein takes the longest to convert into fat. PLus, protein helps you fill fuller for LONGER.

More to add on that, go for foods with FIBRE (also help keep you fuller for long, and keep you regular) and also low GI (Glyciemic Index) foods. GI is the rate at which carbohydrates are converted into sugar (glucose) in the body. When you eat "high" GI Foods like sugars, sweets, chocolate, u signal off an "Insulin Spike".. and to keep that simple, when u do that, u'll make your body want more :) LOW GI!! ok?

Am i sounding like a health freak yet? haha.

AND EXERCSE DEAR!! 3 times a week minimum! Run, jog, walk, gym, cycle, swim!! Keep fit, stay toned, but dont go overboard!

baybee-x-sparkii agony auntDon't lose weight the way you are, its not good for you and your mum and friends are obviously concerned for you. if you want to lose weight just eat healthily and make sure you get exercise it may take longer but its safer for you.

Landie agony auntWhy do you want to lose weight? If its cos you are alot over weight then itts a good idea but if not you playing a dangerous game.

If you are over weight DON'T skip meals its the worst thing you do. Eat healthy lots of fruits and vegtables and eat at least 3 large meals or 6 small ones. And makes sure to exercise at least 3 times a week. Even if you just walk. Get your mom to join you walking. You can get healthy and bond with your mom or make a walking group with your friends.

If you not sure how exactly to eat healthy go to your local Pharmacist/chemist and ask them if they know of a healthy way for you too eat
