writes: I am in love with my best mates ex and unsure how to handle the situation.They split about 6 weeks ago and I have tried to be there for both of them as a friend, however I have feelings for this girl and I now know that she feels the same way about me.We have been seeing each other on a casual basis now for 3 weeks, she is everything I could ever want in a partner.However she is now unwilling to get involved for fear of upsetting my mate, dont get me wrong we are talking about my Best friend here and I wouldnt want to upset him either but should I sacrifice my own and the girls happiness for the sake of not upsetting my mate???

The only thing you can do is try talking to your best mate about it tell him that you like her but that you do not want it to ruin your friendship so you would like to know his feelings on it, if he goes off his head about it then you need to think about who means more to you, just remember most really good friends are there for life.

Why choose between friends and partners?
They belong to two different categories.
Beside that, it sounds to me that you rush things here a lot:

And your "Best friend" does not know that you are together?!
"should I sacrifice my own and the girls happiness for the sake of not upsetting my mate" - this depends on your values.
