YummyMummy agony auntI can see where the doctor is going with getting your periods on track. They probably think that if they can regulate your periods the easier you'll fall pregnant.

Good luck hunni!

Thank you for all the advice that everyone on here has gave me. I have tryed to talk to the doctor about getting pregnant but he just seems to tell me in order for you to be able to get pregnant you have to stay on the pills and get your period on track. So with all the advice i have decided to make an appointment with another doctor. But thanks again and I will keep everyone posted on what the other doctor says. Thank you all

YummyMummy agony auntHeya :)

I have had very irregular periodssince I was 10, I was also on the pill and still managed to fall pregnant. It will happen. The more you think about falling pregnant the longer it seems to take. Try and relax and enjoy the sex cause your sex drive may drop when you do fall pregnant.

Try talking to your gp about diets and things. Also start taking Folic Acid ASAP! It helps fertility and also when you fall pregnant is very good for the baby. You can buy ovulation text kit things that tell you when you are most likely to conceive.

If you are on a birth control pill to regulate your periods I doubt you will fall pregnant, as birth control is supposed to stop you falling pregnant. Go back to your GP and explain you want to start the process of having a baby, and maybe they can give you something else to help you :)

Excellent answer from deejuliet. You need to see your doctor about your fertility. As she said, this a separate issue from getting your periods regular.

A female reader, deejuliet United States +, writes (5 July 2007):

deejuliet agony auntIf you are on a birth control pill to regulate your period you cannot get pregnant at all while taking that medication. The period you are having is not a real period, no egg is released. That is why it is birth control, it prevents pregnancy! Staying on them will not increase your chances of conceiving and going off the pill does not mean that your periods will remain in the same cycle that they were while you were on the pill. You really need to talk to your doctor about this.

As for the best time and way to conceive: Generally you ovulate about 14 days before you get your period. As your period is so irregular, this will be hard to calculate. Again, you will need help from your doctor. A man constantly produces semen, but once he ejaculates it takes a while to build up a full amount again. That is why it is recommended to only have sex alternate days. It is better to have a larger amount less often than a smaller amount daily. Think of your bladder, if you needed to give a urine sample and the goal was to give the biggest sample you could, would you stop to pee before you got to the doctors office? No, you would hold it till you got there and could give the sample.
