reader, anonymous, writes (16 June 2006): Hi there, I once had a love bite when i was about 14, and it didnt necessarily hurt, but i got a weird sensation when the boy was giving me it, and I wouldnt say it was pleasent. It felt like my skin was being pulled or almost sucked out (well it was lol) and the bruise just felt like any normal bruise does. I wasnt sexually active with this boy but it did paint that kind of picture to my mates and they didnt think it was "cool" they thought it looked "common" and nasty. Never Again!
I wouldnt reccomend them, but it is your personal choice hunni. And remember, when you lose your virginity, if it is near to the time or years away, its better to be safe than sorry. Always practise safe sex. x

 Love bites...hmmmm lovely...yes I was being sarcastic. You have lots of nerves in your neck, not to mention the carotid artery so it is not a great idea to let dracula near you. Human bite marks are just not attractive, and in my teen years it was said that if you had love bites on your neck it was an advert for the whole world that you were being sexually active with a boy (even though that is just not true really). It is nice to have your neck kissed as it is a sensitive area, but love bites just don't look nice afterwards - you get dirty looking bruises that everyone can see ewwww...not nice, and when they get infected (as they sometimes do because human teeth biting into skin=lots of bacteria from the mouth) they smell, swell up and look even worse. Best to get some garlic and keep the vampires away young lady...
