i think i am sensitive to noise..maybe it is due to growing up with my parents arguing here and there..it was nervewracking to listen to it. I enjoy quiet time and being alone and relaxing.

I just feel like working in an office builds on that type of anxiety..where i work it is pretty open..i sit along a hallway type area along with a few others..so it is very open..people walking back and forth if it is busy. I just find myself very very annoyed because the receptionist has no shame with anyone hearing her personal calls..she is very loud at times, laughs loud where it goes right through me, talks alot..then there are the guys in my area..they are really cool but sometimes i hear their convo along with this other older lady a part owner of the company who is a horrible human being basically..but then i hear her conversations as well..sometimes this is going on all at once along with the copier machine in the front that i hear

it just annoys me soo much..it isn't like this all the time but when it is; i feel stressed...my eyes widen at times when i hear the receptionist--that annoying eyes widening thing people do when they can't believe how annoying the person is being..i just cant believe it at times..

and if i go on vacation it is like a big ordeal to her..she does it to everyone but i felt VERY annoyed before mine..she must have announced it like 3 times asking am i ready for vacation?, pointing it out where others can hear she is going on vacation and leaving us, not fair..she thinks she is being funny but i am private and don't like this at all..the way i see it--when i am gone and on vacation they will find out..i don't announce it to people beforehand unless they need to know. I am just weird like that

So the last day before my vacation i spent time trying to avoid her..i couldn't believe how horrible it is just to have a few days off..i don't like being asked where i am going and then if you do go somewhere nice people look at you like you have so much money or something and dont take note in the fact they are choosing to live in a city charging $2000 a month in rent when they move to a different borough and have the same commute.

I come home and i like it being quiet and soak up being alone..i sit in the dark with a cup of coffee and watch tv

I am in my mid twenties and i get the feeling alot of other people aren't doing this when they go home..they go out or do errands or this and that..

Can anyone relate to what i am going through? Any thoughts? thanks

I'm 24 and I am exactly like you. For one thing, I'm trying to concentrate on my work when people are jabbering on the phone having personal calls. Oh and the last receptionist in my office would talk so loudly on the phone and every time she hung up, she'd make a comment to herself, sigh, chuckle, or tell the world how stressed she was. I can completely understand you feeling annoyed at everyone being told your holiday plans - especially at work! Unless you're incredibly lucky, work is never going to be full of people you have lots in common with and could be great friends with. I mean sure, you want the days and coffee breaks to pass nicely, but that doesn't mean everyone has to know everyone's personal business!

Also, I can't think of anything better than some nice, quiet alone time, zoning out to the tv or reading a book. My favourite time is when my housemates are out and I have the house to myself with no possibility of the peace being disturbed :) Not everyone in the world loves going out and being busy all the time. Don't worry about it and just be you, doing what makes you happy. There's always someone else in the world who likes what you like, and if not - who cares anyway!
