Ok.. This is kind of a touchy question, and I'm not even sure if I should be asking this or not. But I'm going to anyway.. just cuz I have very strong feelings about this. (as would anyone and their religion.)

I'm LDS (a mormon) and there's a lot of publicity and rumors flying around the media and everywhere else about my religion, especially now with Mitt Romney running for President, and now even worse with what Mike Huckabee has said about us. This undeserved negative publicity we recieve a lot of the time is really starting to bug me. More so than that though, (and what this post is all about) is to weed out what rumors are going around.

SO, hopefully, on here some of you will read this and ask me questions about what we believe in and what we don't.

This is my attempt to dispel some of these rumors and separate fact from fiction. And trust me, being a Mormon, I've heard some pretty crazy rumors about us, and some of them are pretty funny because they're so off the wall.

Hey... Granted.. I am only 17. BUT, I'll gladly answer all of your questions you have to the best of my abilities.

Thank you all so much for all of your imput.

jamey_37 agony auntFirstly, I want to say, Huckabee's not ALL wrong, (so as to not discriminate against him) but he did take things from my religion and twist them so they sound..... shall we say..... outright crazy.

A female reader, birdynumnums Canada +, writes (27 January 2008):

birdynumnums agony auntI don't know very much about the Mormon faith. My husband was researching our family background and we found out that the Mormon Church has the largest archive of births and deaths in the world, and that this came about from a calling to record all of the souls in the world, in order to save them. I thought that was an amazing thing. Did I get the purpose right? Is it the largest or most thorough record of souls? Thanks for entertaining my question Jamie.

I'm afraid I don't have a clue what you're talking about, being on the other side of the Atlantic I've no idea what these people have said or even who they are.

Perhaps if you spelled out what the rumours are, and your response to them, people like me might have a better understanding of your particular problem.

Religion and politics. If ever there were two subjects designed to stir up a hornets nest, they are it. Quite what they have to do with relationship problems eludes me though.

Yos agony auntI'm an atheist through and through. I'm English, but when I lived in the US my best friend there was a serious Mormon. I found him very open minded and a really nice guy. Above all he did what I think the fundamental teaching of Christianity tells us to do: treat everyone with compassion and respect, no matter who they are and what they believe (or don't believe). The fact that he did that to me, an atheist who drinks and, earlier in my life, taken drugs (which i admitted to him), earned my respect.

Personally I don't think we need God to tell us to treat others with respect, I think we should do it whether God exists or not. But that's a not a discussion for this site.

Anyway, thats not a question for you, but more a vote of confidence.
