 Well first of it was not his right to go snooping in to your chat history and looking at old conversations. However he has done that now and cant go back in time. It was your mail account that he saw whatever it was that has made him think that you cheated on him. Therefore it doesnt look very good for you. You dont explain how this chat was on your mail account. Does someone else have access to your mail account and if so who could have been the one to have been writing these mails to the other guy? You havent explained your innocence very well at all therefore it is going to be hard for him to trust you or also to believe that it wasnt you.
You need to figure out who was the person responsible for writing this mail and figure out what happened. After you get proof that it wasnt you well then you should write him a letter and explain everything in it. There is nothing else you can do after this. If he choses not to belive you then i guess you need to accept that and move on.

i think he is lack of interest in you. you better give him some space and let him come to you. just ignore him some day he will come to you or else after a month you go and speak to him and you try to make him understand that you are no machine. you are a human and its all the machine fault no yours and you wont do so stupid things
