They have tons of groups and websites all over the internet, specially devoted to stepfamilies and the problems they may have. Please go there, you will find articles, advice and people who you can share experiences with. Here's one for people in Canada to give you a start.http://www.thestepfamilylife.com/LinksStepfamilyAssociations.htm

I am a step daughter (though to a man) we dotn get on great because rather than talk to me on normal occasions he just tells me to do things like 'you forgot to wash your dishes' he never says hi or goodmorning to me. So I guess that's a start.
With our dads girls are pretty protective, just show her you love her dad and are willing to be friends with her and that you are not a rival. Soem girls might see step mothers as rivals for their fathers attention.
I would leave any discipline down to her father. Just make sure you come a cross as a friend and here's a little secret= be on her side in any arguments she has with her dad abotu staying up later or having friends over. She'll love it.
Hope everything goes well :)
