What do you do when your sister spits in your face, during a heated argument? She's also done it to her 80 year old dad.

Passthrough agony auntShow best form- Wipe it off your face, look her in the eye, and (grab your tazer and give her what for... Kidding!) tell her that it was absolutely disgusting, and walk away.

When calm, remind her it is subhuman behavior, and utterly disgraceful and disrespectful. No human should do that to any other human being they have any lick of respect for. Tell her that her absolutely subhuman behavior has you positivly repulsed, and she needs to apologise, cease and desist...

Ultamatum may be necessary, but keep in mind she's your sister... Telling her off wont be nearly as good as setting her straight.

O Connor agony auntoh my god how old is she?? thats absolutely disgusting!! spitting is such a degrading thing to do to someone, especially to family! if she does it again, wipe it off your face, dont look at her or talk to her, turn your back and walk away. dont talk to her for as long as you can - show her that spitting at ppl is no way to get your point across or getting attention. it is classless and filthy. it sounds to me like this girl has issues to do with anger. i would avoid her for a while and dont give her the satisfaction of a reaction next time. god spitting is SO vile - in my opinion, it is the worst thing you can do to another person.

A reader, anonymous, writes (3 March 2008):

It's all very well being cool, calm and collected, but if this happened to me I don't think I could avoid giving her a damned good slap to the side of the head, making her go deaf in one ear for at least ten minutes.

She'd think twice about doing it a second time.

You don't react at all. It has happened already so your comeback line time frame has ended.

However, if this is her usual and at times way of behaving, you need to let her firmly know that your disgusted in her.

Tell her she has a problem if this is the only way of her behaving when things get heated and that she should consider she has a problem. Tell her neither you or your father are prepared to put up with her spitting anymore.

Tell her she is behaving like a low life brat when she resorts to such revolting behaviour.

I think spitting at someone is just so vile. Just so lowlife....

A female reader, eyeswideopen United States +, writes (3 March 2008):

eyeswideopen agony auntThat reminds me of that scene in "To Kill A Mockingbird" when Gregory Peck gets it in his face. You know at this point he could kick the guy's butt if he wanted to but instead he just calmly takes out his handkerchief and wipes it off. I suggest you do the same, your sister has very poor manners and anger management issues. Show your class and her lack thereof.
