writes:Over the past couple of days I’ve met a girl at university. We seem to be mutually interested in each other and I think I have a more than decent chance of successfully asking her out. Despite the fact she’s on my course, we are doing completely different modules which means the number of times I see her is quite limited. I would ask her out face to face, but I cannot guarantee that I’ll see her at all next week as it’s reading week and we move in completely different circles of friends. I have some kind of momentum going now, and should ask her out in the next week or so – currently, I’m debating the ethics of doing this via Facebook. I’m not a fan of Facebook and especially when it comes to asking people out – I think direct communication is by far more conducive. Considering the situation however, I think it’s the best option. How best should I ask her out over Facebook?

 I'm not a fan of being asked out over FB, it's too impersonal. Although, it is a form of communication when in the flesh isn't an option. But there is the phone too.
Why don't you send her a message asking for her number..tell her you need the coursework explained to you more in depth. Then once you have her number, you can call/text her and ask if she liked to go out with you this weekend.
Or if you must FB, then just give a disclaimer stating you would have asked her out in person, but you weren't sure if you were going to see her, and didn't want to risk it. Then proceed to ask her out on a date.

 If you see her, definitely ask her out in person. But otherwise I think you should go for it over facebook while you're still fresh in her mind.

 I would make an affort to TRY and see her face to face and ask, if THAT doesn't happen you could write her an email through her Facebook and tell her you have been wanting to ask her out, see how she responds.

 if you see her on chat talk to her then and ask, if not then send her a nice private message, alternatively message a bit back and forth before you ask. do not use the wall for private messages.
