Do not go straight for the tongue. It's extremely forward, especially if you haven't properly kissed him yet. The reason you probably clashed teeth a couple of times is because you both thought about it too much and then acted too quickly.
You need to calm down and just go for the peck on the lips, it doesn't have to be long lasting depending on how you and your boyfriend wants it. If you still feel that you need help after you've kissed him, maybe ask him how he likes to be kissed and maybe ask him to show you. The best way to learn is to do. Take one step at a time and I'm sure you'll be just fine. Good luck and have fun okay.
