I get my period while taking the pill every month but sometimes I feel that taking a test would ease my fear a little bit, just to be sure. My friend told me that if you keep getting your period while on the pill then you're not pregnant, but I'm not sure that is 100% accurate. Does anyone know? thanks

Whilst on the pill we have what is called a bleed. Its not a typical menstrual cycle as we are fooling the body into thinking it is pregnant already. That is how the pill works and guards the uterus so to speak. Basically if your body already thinks you are pregnant, it wont impregnate you again.
Whilst the lining still comes away and we have a 7 day break(those on the combined pill) we just have what is known as a bleed in that time.
It is possible to still have this bleed whilst being on the pill and falling pregnant, as its kind of a dummy period of sorts. So yes you could still have this period and have fallen pregnant. A pregnancy test reading at this time however would show the correct result. ie if you were pregnant it would show up, equally if your not it will also be indicated. The pregnancy test works on the hormone that is released in the stages of pregnancy HGC and this is what is read in the urine when a pregnancy test is done. If this is not present then the reading will show negative.
If you are taking the pill correctly, and at the correct time and not on any other medication, not drinking alcohol to excess, have had a stomach upset, (all these things can reduce the effectiveness of the pill) then i dont see why you would have a problem in taking it.
Basically when taken correctly its a pretty good form of contraception. And provided your not careless, you should be okay.
If you are concerened you can always double up the protection and use a condom aswell, this also will protect you against STD's and STI's.
Hope that helped!
