Are you serious there is no minimum age to buy or acquire condoms or the pill in the UK?

reader, anonymous, writes (21 May 2007): There is no minimum age to get condoms or go on the contraceptive pill.
You can get condoms at a cost from any pharmacist and chemists and shops like Boots, or from vending machines in some public toilets. Condoms can be quite expensive, but you can also get condoms for free of charge at a sexual health clinic.
There is also no minimum age to be prescribed the contraceptive pill. This is available via your GP or through a sexual health clinic.
If you phone up your GP surgery they will tell you where your nearest sexual health clinic is. If you attend one of these, it involves having a short talk with a nurse and they will discuss with you different contraceptive methods (there are lots) and answer any questions you have.
You should also probably talk to a responsible adult, maybe your mum, about your interest in these kind of things as they should know what you're up to in case you have any problems. With sex comes the risk of pregnancy and also the risk of sexually transmitted infections so if you are considering having sex, make sure you aware of these responsibilities that you will have.

Hi in the UK I believe 16 for both as you are age of consent but I guess if you buy condoms from a machine in the pub it doesn't matter what age. If you want to go on the pill do the right thing and go and see a health clinic or your doctor. Don't just take anything, it is a hormone and can rightfully f**k you up if you just start taking anything. As your 10-12 years of age, you really shouldn't be considering it or even going through the worry of 'what if' every time you are doing it. Being sexually active so young also makes you more prone to some really nasty medical stuff later on because you started young...honestly don't do this. You won't get the pill anyway from a doctor just lots of leaflets and long lectures on premature sex. Tell me why are you wanting to or having it now? you've got the rest of your life but just wait honestly.
