How long is a piece of string? It totally depends on each situation. The most important thing is you feel comfortable with it, you feel ready and that you're doing it for the right reasons. It should happen naturally.

reader, anonymous, writes (4 January 2011): That's a tough question... I used to think a lot about it and would try to date someone for say 4 or 5 months before sex. I did that for the first 3 guys I slept with, but then I started to go with the flow more. I slept with my current boyfriend the night we got together (something I never thought I'd do) and it worked out perfectly, now we're getting married. So I think there are no rules - if you sleep together early and it works out, then it's all good. If it doesn't then it wasn't meant to be. Just go with the flow, enjoy and stop thinking about waiting.
