Which surprises me.Does anyone have the actual medical knowledge to tell me how long you should leave it, to get accurate results from a pregnancy test?

It takes about 6 - 12 days for an oocyte (egg) to be fertilised and implanted once it has been released (ovulation). The implanted embryo triggers the release of HCG (hormone unique to pregnancy). Early pregnancy tests are very sensitive to very low levels of HCG and will more or less give you a positive result (even faintly positive) about the second to third day after implantation has taken place. So it depends on how long the embryo takes to implant and starts to release HCG. A small percentage of women get a positive at 8 days post ovulation, but most not until 14 days ovulation when your period is due. It varies. They wait can be a torture and I would recommend testing on the day your period is due, you have a much higher chance of an accurate result. Remember a negative, does not always mean negative, since you may have tested too soon. A positive is almost always correct, even if it is just a very faint positive.

well it depends on the pregnancie test you buy they all have instructions on them telling you how long to wait and how to do it some may be once you have missed a period other two weeks from intercourse. i was always told to get a better idea wait more than 2 weeks...but best bet to read instructions. if that go to your gp free and quick.. aphexy
