writes:so i just graduated from high school, and turned 18. my 26 yr old ex teacher and i def have a thing for each other...its way obvious, and he's lead singer in a band and asked me to go to one of his concerts on my birthday (which i did) and i told him how i felt and he said that he wanted to wait until after a little while because if any one in the school found out that we immediately started dating after high school that he would prob get fired because they would think we had something going on in high school.but he made me two mixed cd's w songs like green eyes and sparks by coldplay, wildflowers by tom petty, all romantic songs etc, w a really sweet note for grad...and at his concert he sang happy birthday to me and was lookin at me the whole time, so i know theres something there, but do yall know how long he should wait before we decide to pursue a relationship? thanks, it would help me alot if u could help me outxoxo, kayla

 I would have thought once you graduate then its ok but I agree you should wait a few months so people wont assume something happened before, which could get him into trouble even if its not true. But I dont know the legalities.
He should know what the rules are as he may have been told during training or each school may have an individual rule which is in his contract x

 wait six months max and then deny anything happened before-have some guts. sorry but your an adult so do what you want but get your story straight with him first. these chances dont come up that often...

reader, anonymous, writes (24 June 2008): As a teacher what I learned here is that as a teacher you're supposed to wait 5 years after the student has graduated. Otherwise there are legal things if something bad happens. I think so anyway.
