How effective is emergency contraception? Last night I had sex for first time and it was going great until my bf realised the condom had come off and had lodged itself right up at my cervix! He didn't come cos he realised before that condom had come off but when iv given him a hand job b4 wet stuff (pre-cum?) comes out of his penis so I was worried this might get my pregnant. I was so worried afterwards that he went and inspected himself and told me that he def hadn't come and from his many gfs over the last 10years his penis didn't feel like it does when he takes the condom off after he has cum. He didn't even think there was pre cum. My period is due the end of this week beginning on next so I was really worried. I got the emergency contraceptive pill 14hours afterwards but will this be enough time cos it says its only 84% effective and with the bad luck with the condom Im worried not. Also last night when I got home 4hrs afterwards I flushed my vagina out with the high pressure boiling hot shower head and it squirted back out every few seconds the water and natural lube my body produced(including a very tiny red thing about the size of the head of a sewing needle (could it be an egg?). I was just wondering if I could have in fact made things worse and cause an ectopic pregnany? Also will a sperm at the point I took the pill have fertilized the egg and be starting to attach itself to my womb?

Personally, I've never known Levonelle to not work. The number is lower than other contraceptive methods because of people who take it later on and thus still fall pregnant. The quicker you take it, the more effective it is. 14 hours is very quick, I highly doubt you are now pregnant.

If you haven't had your period already then I'd expect it will probably be quite late. I've known girls who have had a delayed period of 3 weeks whilst stressing about whether or not they are pregnant.

In answer to your last question: If sperm has already fertalised an egg, Levonelle will stop it from attaching to the lining of your womb.

black_diamond329 agony auntI used levonelle too but it said in the leaflet that it was only 84% effective. Did you get a stronger prescription cos you were on other medication?

vina_101 agony auntI'm not sure but... I think eggs are microscopic so I don't think you'd be able to see it. :)

Well as long as you took it very soon after unprotected sex then you should be fine. 84% sounds good to me but you might be one of the unfortunate ones in the small percentage, but as you can see that is not very likely. I used emergency contraception once and it worked for me, but I took the Levonelle brand which is 95% effective within 24 hours of unprotected sex.

I don't know if you took that brand but if you did there should be spotting or a small amount of bleeding a few days after you take it. Do you still have the leaflet that came with it? There should be some information in there about the effectiveness of it.

"If you are not pregnant you should have your period as usual, although it may be a little early or a little late. If your period is more than five days late or is unusually light or unusually heavy, contact your doctor as soon as possible."
