OK well first if you know for sure that your partner has a STD why in the world would you have sexual intercoarse with them of any sort? but if you guys use protection EACH AND EVER single time then you should be safe from what ever they have. Also if your partner has a STD that can be cured than just wait to have sex until they are fully cured!! And using protection with oral sex IS VERY SMART!!! thats why they make falvored condoms Duhh!!!! hope this helped!

A male reader, chlez83 Zambia +, writes (15 January 2008):

Why would you do oral with a condom? It's either you got the guts or you don't have,to put it in your mouth knowing there's a risk of getting infected.Intercourse is certainly a non-starter when your partner is infected.Condoms are very effective but are not 100% safe due to human errors so don't put your life/health in a condom. You may later regret it.

Take care.

For the person that said "NO" is the only way to avoid pregnancy 100%...

I'd like to point out that the myriad of rape victims might disagree with you there.

It is possible to get an STD, just not really AIDS.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (14 January 2008):

To my knowledge, condoms can better protect you against some std's but are not so effective against others. Like herpes, for instance, I know is HIGHLY contagious with or without a condom. Cause just by having skin to skin contact with a person with herpes can make you catch it. And obviously even if you wear a condom there is still some skin to skin contact.

Other std's such as HIV, you are better protected against with a condom just because it can only be caught through the exchange of body fluids, and not simply by skin to skin contact. And obviously a condom prevents the exchange of fluids.

But, even alot of these conclusions about how std's can be caught are to some extent pure speculation and still only theories. Some people just can never be too careful.

A male reader, dc.ryan United Kingdom +, writes (14 January 2008):

dc.ryan agony auntCondoms are generally very effective (99.99% effective in some cases), but like with anything there is always a risk that method could fail.

To ensure the maximum effectiveness you need to ensure the condoms are of good quality (e.g reputable brand; Durex etc) and you use them correctly.

No method of protection offers 100% protection - only staying clean, considerate and honest will guarantee you 100% protection.

A female reader, moocha +, writes (14 January 2008):

It depends on what the std is, although condoms are the best way to protect against std's - really your partner should get tested and then go on the course of antibiotics to treat the disease. Until then it can always be risky - crabs etc live in the pubic hair. Hope this helps.
