I think Uncle Phill has got it right.
Ask him if he thinks you are pretty. If he says yes and seems enthusiastic about it, ask him if he would ever ask you out.
You can pretend you just want some guy advice if you like.

Could I suggest that if you like him, you ask him if he finds you attractive. A woman did that to me once and she was a cracker. I wouldn't have had the courage to ask her the same thing, being a very shy guy myself, and the reply from me was most definitely in the affirmative!
