A month later he unblocked me and said "This is silly I want to be friends although you probably hate me" I try saying I don't hate you and we now get along. But I wish he would know I still like him and don't hate him! I really miss his company too at lunch as we always used to hang around together. I don't know how to tell him all this without making me or him feel awkward.

Just say something like "just because we dont go out doesnt mean we shouldnt hang out, i meanwere friends so why not act like it". By saying this youre not making things awkward, youre getting an opportunity to hang out with him more and, he will get the idea that you two are friends.

do you really want him to know you miss him? by thinking about him, and telling him, you aren't really allowing yourself to move on. unless of course you're hoping you can get back together with him - in which case go all out because you have nothing to lose.
maybe before you take a step back to reminisce, why don't you make a good attempt at moving on from the relationship you guys shared? try meeting new guys and maybe it'll begin to take your mind off him and you won't feel like you miss him so much!
