I really like him but I don't understand what I'm feeling. I've never felt remotely attracted to anyone before and when I first met him I didn't think he was anything special. I've got to know him since then and I've totally fallen for him. He's always on my mind and he makes me happy. He seems to like me too as he's bought me gifts, he teases me a lot but sticks up for me too and shows he cares.I'm confused as to whether this is just a crush or more. I'm often overcome with jealousy without need and I want to hear from him all the time. Our friends think a relationship is on the cards but I just feel overwhelmed by everything. I didn't expect to feel like this about him or anyone else for years. What do you think?

I'd say it's a little more than a crush. Time around him over the years has caused you to develop feelings for him. I wouldn't worry about "why", the fact is the feelings are there so don't be afraid to explore them. :-)
