writes:So me and my family are taking a trip to San Antonio and my step-mom is going to bring her cousins daughter. Well long story short I think she's kind of cute. The problem is that I think I try to much to look cool when my dad and step-mom are in the same room. When they leave it gets quiet and kinda awkward. How do I act like more of myself and how do I talk to her one on one?

reader, anonymous, writes (11 August 2014): This is always a really hard question to answer. Just stop trying to look cool in front of her - act normal.
Try to find out about HER. Ask her about her school, what music she likes, pets she has, does she play sports etc etc etc.
Try doing an activity with her such as a computer game or even a board game which kind of helps give you things to talk about if you're a bit shy.
