A female United States age 36-40, *auren88 writes:

I am Lauren and I'm 20 years old, my sister and I went to Miami for vacation and to party with our friends, one night I decided to stay and eat in the hotel restaurant which is very elegant and nice, I was eating alone, when this very handsome older man approached me and asked if he can join me and I said yes, as we were eating dinner he was very charming, funny and sweet, we talked to get to know each other, I told him how old I was and a college student and he is 44 and a lawyer, and we are both from L.A., we hit off wonderfully and spent time together, and were sexually intimate. When I introduced him my sister, she has no problem with our relationship and when I introduced him to my parents and the rest of my family, they were shocked and stunned at first especially my father, but him and my mother got over it and welcomed him to the family, which him and I were happy about it, after dating and living together for 4 months he asked me to marry him and I was so surprised by it and happy I said yes, we are engaged and its great.

Here is my problem he has a 22 year old son and two daughters that are 16 and 11, they all live with their mom (his ex wife) in New York City, which he has a great relationship with, he has told them about me for months and last week told them about our engagement, so for Thanksgiving his 3 kids and his ex wife are coming to LA, I will be seeing them for the first time and it will their first time meeting me, so how do I make a good impression on them? so they can like me. How do I do that?

A female reader, anonymous, writes (16 November 2008):

Hi dear,

First off, congratulations! You must be so excited!

The best you can do to make a good impression is to just be completely yourself. Don't try to hide anything or make up for anything you think is a "flaw". Treat these people like they are your family, with love and kindness, because they will be soon. I bet they are just as nervous as you are about meeting, but if you are confident and friendly I'm sure that they will adore you.

Good luck! 3
