My son is quiet and shy around a girl he likes, but talks to me about her all the time. If you like him, and don't want him to go back with his ex girlfriend then show him. Ask your patents if you two can go to a school sport game together. Pay attention to his actions while you two are together and apart. That will tell you if he likes you or his ex. Because remember sometimes rumors are true, but sometimes they aren't.

It wouldn't hurt to ask him, just to make sure he wasn't just busy doing guy-stuff with his buddies.
If he's been talking to his ex, she may have contacted him after finding out he was seeing someone else.
