I haven’t spoken to any of my ex-girlfriends since we broke up. It would be nice to maintain contact with those that have been such an important part of my life. I always thought this would be a bad idea given the heavy emoticons at the time but now I’m thinking “Why not?” We’re both adults and it could be a very valuable friendship given how well we know each other.Does anyone have experience with this? I’m not really sure how to go about this given how long it’s been. Should I be careful in any particular respects?

Sounds a bit like whats good for the goose etc. If you haven't got a natural friendship with any exes then I expect it wont happen. Some people dont do mates with exes, others do. I think its usually safer to be mates with an ex because you've tried the relationship thing and it obviously didn't work, leaving you free to get on as friends without complications. I dont get why people have a hang up about their partner being mates with an ex.
