HI

I am 25. Last year I got dumped by my high school sweetheart of 6 years. It was painful and finally I moved on .

I had mood swings at times I cry myself to bed. So I picked up this habit to believe on horoscope . Now I check my prediction on daily basis and constantly thinking about it. To be weird i keep counting the no of seconds left for the good days to come.

It is eating up my mind all the time. How to get rid of that habit

A female reader, anonymous, writes (3 July 2019):

No one knows your life or your future. Horoscopes are written to vaguely convey an idea that can apply to anyone. Personally I feel they are trash, prethought up for people to ingest. You need to replace this obsession with a healthier habit. Stop letting those random words dictate your life. You and only you have authority of your life and your words. Start by reading the Bible instead even a daily devotional. Write a daily journal or keep a log of your dreams. Replace the horoscope fascination with something that takes you forward, makes you happy and helps others.

You started looking in the hope things would get better, to be fair I did similar I went to tarot readers hoping to hear my ex would come back.

But you have to wean yourself off them. Try not reading them every day, vow to yourself you will at first only look every other day then each week extend the days you dont look. Look at other more useful ways to use your time, do things that are not compulsive, even if it's just a brisk walk, fill your time doing positive things for yourself, you know really the horoscopes was just a way for you to escape how you felt at the time, it's of no use now x

N91 is exactly right! Horoscopes are so generalized that any gullable person will be sure that it was written for them. How to end it? Talk to a clergyman about you addiction. This is an evil just like superstitions, that will send you on a wrong path in life. Look how this is already consuming large chunks of your time, and that is time where you could be doing something productive or charitable. Prayer should never be underestimated either! Ask GOD for knowledge, wisdom, and understanding, so that you are not led astray by useless things! My prayers will be going up for you also, OP! Bless You!

Not very helpful, N91

OP, just skip a day without it. Then two days. Then three days. Consciously CHOOSE to skip it. It won't be easy until you get into the new habit of NOT looking. Praise yourself when you go a day without it. Don't give up when you check, just start again with not looking. At some point, you'll go a few weeks without looking and you'll forget about it.

Telling you just to believe it’s rubbish is ignoring the fact that this is literally an addiction and ad such requires professional help . It sounds like some form of ocd and that as far as I understand can take on any form of obsession. ( yours it seems relates to horoscopes and counting time)

Don’t be ashamed and don’t let others shame you by saying it’s rubbish or eidivuluw ridivulous. I’m sure your aware that it’s not reality and you are already feeling bad enough about yourself . Seek out the advice of a good therapist and be totally honest about what is happening so that you can get to the root cause of what’s causing you to focus on horoscopes

Best wishes

N91 agony auntHow to get rid? Understand that it’s a load of rubbish.

They make very general statements that could apply to anyone’s life and the reader such as yourself will connect the dots. Complete and utter garbage.
