How do I get over this so I can see the real him even when I'm not in contact, so I can finally move on?

A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

So me and my ex have been broken up for a while... he had a lot of issues, called me names, didn't respect me, flirted with other girls all the time, etc. Whenever he and I are talking again, I can see all the reasons I left him and I want nothing to do with him... but whenever we aren't talking it's like I forget all the bad things and start missing him. How do I get over this so I can see the real him even when I'm not in contact, so I can finally move on?!

A male reader, CaringGuy United Kingdom +, writes (18 January 2010):

Delete his number, then never speak to him again. You feel this way because you are not allowing yourself enough time to get over him, and you occasionally are in contact and that can only make it worse. If you truly want to get over him, never contact him again and focus on your own life.
