I went in to the pub on Saturday, was going to ask her but I lost my nerve. She has got a ring on her finger (left-hand, third finger from the left). That may not mean anything, but what do you think? On the other hand, no pain no gain!
Plus, the only words I've said to her is 'scampi and chips please'! Wouldn't she think I'm a bit stupid to ask her out out of the blue?

Why not just say that you'd like to give her your number if she'd be interested in a date? That way you don't sound dodgy, you sound interested but not too pushy?

then what you need to do is work out why you think the relationship could work if there is a big distance anyway

everyones fear of rejection clouds there ability to approach the opposite sex, but put it into perspective, what's the worst that could happen? she could say no, and if that happens, pick yourself up and move on.
focus on the fact that girls are just as nervous about being asked! you're young enough and i'm sure as long as you don't use any dodgy chat up lines, you'll be fine!
good luck
