You are just sitting there with a fishing pole hoping that a fish bites the hook. My family do not understand that I do not want to go fishing with them. And when I tell them no, they get offended. It got to the point where the only way to avoid a fight is to volunteer to work at my job when I know they are planning a fishing trip. Luckly, my boss understands why I volunteer to work and he always needs the extra help. How do I get my family to stop expecting me to be some redneck that loves to fish? I prefer spending my extra time at museums, not holding a fishing pole hoping that a fish bites the hook.

do they know you don't like fishing?
to be honest...sometimes we outgrow our families. and that's ok.
you say "no I can't, I'm sorry, can we meet for dinner one day next week?"

Have you actually come out and said "Sorry, I hate fishing, I'd rather do something else"? When my friend's or family ask me to do something, I tell them no I don't like doing it and maybe once in a blue moon, I will do it just to keep them happy.
"How do I get my family to stop expecting me to be some redneck that loves to fish?" I'm sorry, I did giggle when I read this!! Invite them out to do something you enjoy! It doesn't always have to be the same boring thing!
Good luck :)
