If you were engaged, he should have stood by you (imho) regardless of what your sister or mother thought of him. Of couse, this works both ways. You need to stand up for him to your family when these things happen, as he needs to for you.
That said, be sure and take moment to ask yourself WHY your sister and mother don't trust this man. Do they have valid concerns?
If he broke things off, you can't "make" him come back. First, be sure you want him back. If you do, you need to call him and let him know that you will stand up for him, and that YOU do trust him.
Finally, men lie (much like all human beings). Are you sure that is really the reason he broke things off?
