I can tell that he is a nice guy who might be on the shy side at first. Is there any way I could get him to ask me out?  It IS traditional for the guy to ask the girl... but nowadays, people tend to dispence with tradition and just go for it. It's not always a good thing. But in this situation, I think it might be. Ask him. If he's shy, you might have a bit of a wait on your hands. Just ignore whatever funny feeling you have, and go for it.
Of course, it's likely that he feels the same way: that he should be the one to ask you. So imagine how flattered he'd be if it ended up the other way round!
