How do I deal with the annoying age comments I keep getting?

Thanks to anyone helping me out on this one. Ok, maybe I am too sensitive but in the last week alone three different guys have brought up my age. I am in my late forties, not exactly train wrecked yet but guys have either said I look good for my age and then tried to backtrack and this guy that I volunteer with said I was getting...old. I do not think this would happen to a guy. Like many women these days, I look ok for my age but am tiring of it being brought up. Do I perhaps need to change my look? Is this just a sign of the immaturity of the people involved. It is other women who say I look younger than my age and guys who say...well otherwise. Why is age a big deal for women in this culture and how do I deal with these annoying and shallow comments when they come my way in the future? All replies appreciated.

take the 'good for your age' as compliments, made by idiots. you can reply by saying, 'well, i guess you look, about your age too, though that doesnt make you pretty'. humour is always the way to go!

wonderingcat agony auntLOL ... if you are worried what mean say ... that I think you are not that much different from people who gave you the negative comments. Sorry ...

But, having said that, there is nothing wrong with doing a makeover - that does not necessarily mean adding a ton of make up. But do this for your own well being, not to please others.

There are many things that you can do to "lift" yourself. Adding more moisturizer at night (I use Virgin Coconut Oil) and in the morning before you leave the house. Keeping up with current trends in hairstyle, that fits your age bracket. Wear stylish and classy clothes but still look comfortable. Wear some light natural look eyeshadows and rouge if you like. Wear shoes that have 2 inch heels (soft durable rubber type so they won't be too hard on your leg muscles). Take vitamins before you go to bed at night so you feel fresh and energized when you wake up in the morning. Work out more in the gym (or at home) to tone your muscles a bit more if necessary.

I always give this advice: get together a few female friends (of various ages) to have a "makeover party". This may last half a day. Each one brings different clothes than what each would normally wear. See what you looked like with each change of style ... and have lots of laugh but learn to see how different and comfortable you look as you try different styles. I always think too much designs/motives in a dress/shirt/skirt takes away people's attention off the person wearing it .. ;-)

Good luck and have fun experimenting with trying to find a new you look! :-)
