How do you stand up to somebody you love?

I've always had problems with sticking up for myself. I've only ever done it once and it ended my friendship of four years with my ex bestfriend.

How do I stand up to somebody like my parents or boyfriend without hurting our relationship?

The first thing is to be calm about whatever it is. Make sure to tell them that you are not intending to ruin the relationship, but that you'd like to have control over whatever the situation is too. If they care about you, they'll understand, and respect your choices.
