 I think her reaction will be one of utmost respect for you. She will be pleased that you have shown the maturity and responsibility. I am sure she has an idea that you are sexually active anyway, so put both of your minds at rest and get on the pill.

reader, anonymous, writes (17 December 2006): I hope you have the maturity of going on the pill, because even if you do go on the pill you shouldn't have unprotected sex. With asking your mother about going on the pill, I think she will be very supportive of your decision and realise that you are doing the responsible thing by asking her first. She probably knows more than you think especially if you have got a long term boyfriend, she was probably in the same position you are when she was young.
