They have been getting worse over the past 2 weeks. A similar sore just turned up on my penis. She went to the doctor yesterday and was given Acyclovir cream, so I think the doctor thinks it's herpes too, but we have to wait for the test results.I haven't been with anyone else since September of 2008, and that was my ex wife, who I think had a minor case of herpes over a decade ago, but nothing since. I was with nobody else sexually, and neither was she.My girlfriend says her last sexual encounter before me was in July 2009, which was a month before we started having sex. She had a scare of herpes 3 years ago, but tested negative, but she's had genital warts as recently as 2 years ago. I know the two aren't connected, but the guy she got the warts from was sketchy, so who knows what else he gave her.My concern here is how this came about and the possibility of her getting it from another sexual partner recently. I know herpes can lay dormant and never goes away once you have it, but she's never had an outbreak and neither have I. Should I be concerned that she's been with someone else within the past year? Her behaviour early in our relationship was a bit sketchy, so it wouldn't surprise me, but she's been very honest with me about her sex life and I think she would tell me if she got something from somebody else since we've been together. We've been committed for almost a year, and I have no reason to believe she's strayed. What is the likelihood of this being from another recent partner? I know nothing about herpes.

Herpes can stay dormant indefinitely. So it's very possible either of you two had it a long time ago and it has just appeared now.
No reason to suspect anything unless you have other evidence.

I think it's possible for the virus (herpes) to not show for ages and then flare up on people. That's probably what's happened.
